Go see Furthur. This latest version is the best one for getting a Phil phix. John Kadlecik knows how to get out of Phils way, he actually plays guitar in support of the bass. I have not liked any of the previous incarnations of this group as I found the other guitar players were so far below Phil's stature and yet they tried to be the center of attention...fail! Only Jerry could stand toe to toe with Phil. At least John knows his place in the pecking order - basically I'm going to Furthur to hear Phil lay down those one of a kind monster lines. I play bass in several Dead type bands and I am all about following the sineous Phil bass lines, the other stuff is just fluff to keep it interesting for the non-bass players in the crowd.

Furthur sounds like a class AAA rock band, but with a AAAAAAAAAA bass player.

Phil sounded amazing all the way through the GD's history. I really like the raw early stuff but I also really dig the Modulus super rigs that got used in the later years. I always liked a big bass bomb that shook the rafters at the Hartford Civic Center. You just need to find the right recordings to get the real feel of it...that and a top of the line stereo rig...I use my bass rig as a subwoofer if I'm really jonesin' for a Phil phix.
